American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) President's Press Conference, Nov. 1, 2008 in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- AASLD President Arthur J. McCullough, MD, will host a press conference on the first full day of presentations at the Liver Meeting(R), the annual meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
Dr. McCullough will highlight individual studies and themes from the almost 1600 abstracts to be presented at this year's meeting from the leading researchers in the field. Topics will include pilot studies and clinical trials for hepatitis and the latest findings in fatty liver disease, as well as important research in the areas of hepatocellular carcinoma and controversial issues in liver transplantation. He has selected to review 20 abstracts in advance of their actual presentation in scientific sessions for the benefit of the media.
Dr. McCullough is a professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and chairman of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He is also the vice chair for Research for the Division of Medicine. His research interests include the study of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and alcoholic steatohepatitis. The major research interests of his laboratory include the study of the normal response of protein and energy metabolism during feeding and how the presence of cirrhosis affects that response. Other areas of research include the further delineation of the causes of abnormal energy and protein metabolism in cirrhosis, while evaluating new nutritional and pharmacologic strategies in vivo to correct malnutrition in chronic liver disease.
