UK-based fixed-line carrier Thus has won a 17m pound ($29m) contract from the UK’s Healthcare Commission to provide a next-generation communications network.

Thus, which was acquired earlier this month by Cable & Wireless for 329m pounds ($586m), will provide a fully managed network with voice and data services, support, maintenance, consultancy, network monitoring, and disaster recovery. It will also provide a platform for further upgrades including managed and hosted unified communications services to be deployed in the future.

The Healthcare Commission is the independent watchdog for healthcare in England promoting improvement of services provided by the NHS and independent healthcare organizations.
