Hollywood Presbyterian Named Five-Star Hospital
Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center has been named a Five-Star Rated Hospital with Excellence Awards for heart attack, stroke care, general surgery, diabetes and pulmonary care by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading healthcare ratings organization, in its yearly study of hospital quality.
Hollywood Presbyterian was ranked among the top five percent of hospitals nationally in stroke and pulmonary care and among the top 10 percent in general surgery. According to the HealthGrades annual Hospital Quality in America Study, issued today, patients at the nation’s top-rated hospitals such as Hollywood Presbyterian have a 70 percent lower chance of dying than patients at lower rated hospitals.
To come up with its ratings, HealthGrades, headquartered in Golden, CO, studied patient outcomes in the nation’s 5000 hospitals and analyzed more than 41 million Medicare hospitalization records from 2005 to 2007. The hospital quality study examines procedures and conditions ranging from heart valve replacement surgery to heart attack to pneumonia.
“We’re extremely pleased that the great care we provide at Hollywood Presbyterian is receiving this kind of recognition,” said hospital CEO Jeff Nelson. “Our goal is to be the most trusted hospital in the area by the year 2012, and we’re on the right track to achieve that. The Excellence Awards and the top ratings are a real tribute to the dedication of our employees, nurses and medical staff and the wonderful care they provide patients every day.”
