DALLAS, Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- World-renowned gastrointestinal (GI) specialists recently converged on Methodist Dallas Medical Center to participate in the largest live endoscopy course ever offered in Texas.
Texas Live 2008 featured advanced interventional procedures performed at Methodist Dallas and was broadcast live to over 500 physicians and nurses attending the annual Texas Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (TSGE) conference in Austin. Drs. Paul Tarnasky, Jeffrey Linder, and Randal Macurak, gastroenterologists on the medical staff at Methodist Health System, performed and participated in several advanced procedures used to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal illnesses. Procedures that were performed included ERCP with Spyglass and laser that allows a direct view of bile ducts inside the gallbladder; Endoscopic Ultrasonography used to treat cancer and disorders in the digestive system; BARRX Halo 360, which helps prevent cancer in the esophagus; and Spiral Small Bowel Endoscopy, one of the newest and fastest procedures for examining and treating the small intestine.
Other physicians participating in the event included Drs. Daniel Demarco and Steve Burdick from Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas; Dr. Gregory Haber from Lennox Hill Hospital in New York City; Dr. Isaac Raijman from St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston; and Dr. Brian Dunkin from Methodist Hospital, also in Houston.
"This event was a huge success --- a complete team effort from our GI Lab Manager David Hambrick, RN and his staff, radiology, admitting, anesthesia, pathology, and administration," says Dr. Tarnasky, who envisioned the teaching conference and along with Mr. Hambrick was instrumental in coordinating the event.
The procedures were performed simultaneously in several rooms of the newly remodeled GI lab at Methodist Dallas. The recent renovation has greatly increased the space available for patient preparation and recovery, along with a new state of the art fluoroscopy room for performing interventional procedures.
