Pervasis Therapeutics, Inc., a pioneer in regenerative cell-based therapies and devices to treat serious illness, today announced that Stephen Bollinger, chief operating officer, will present at the 2008 Boston Biotech R&D Conference, at 10:20 a.m. EST on October 22, 2008, at Harvard Medical School. This conference will bring luminaries from top academic institutions that have been instrumental in establishing the strong Boston biotech community together with executives from several of the area’s most promising emerging biopharmaceutical companies and leaders from the venture capital community and equity markets.

Bollinger will lead a session entitled “Harnessing the Power of Cells.” The presentation will be moderated by Ren Benjamin, Rodman & Renshaw. The discussion will highlight Pervasis’ lead product candidate Vascugel(R), a novel cell-based therapeutic matrix currently being developed to enhance repair after vascular injury and restore blood flow to critical vasculature. When placed adjacent to an injured blood vessel, the allogeneic endothelial cells in Vascugel(R) provide growth regulatory compounds to the underlying blood vessel, which promotes natural healing and may prevent blood vessel occlusion. Vascugel(R) has the ability to adapt to specific pathologic environments and to modulate the deleterious effects of an injury or disease state by promoting a unique and targeted healing process.

“We are pleased to be part of the first ever Boston Biotech R & D conference,” said Bollinger. “The conference is a great opportunity to share our advances in novel and innovative allogeneic cell therapy with other leading biotech and pharmaceutical companies in our community. We look forward to discussing the advances Pervasis is making to address complex diseases and unmet medical needs with synergistic and adaptive cell-based technologies.”

Pervasis’ lead product candidate, Vascugel(R), has been studied in two Phase 2 clinical trials in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Data from these trials are expected before the end of 2008. Vascugel(R) is a cell-based therapeutic matrix developed to reestablish healthy vasculature after vascular injury and to promote natural healing. Pervasis is also exploring broader indications in non-vascular applications, including inflammation, organ transplantation, nerve, wound and bone repair, and oncology.
