Eating Yogurt Reduces Bladder Cancer Risks

Eating two servings of yogurt a day significantly reduces the risk of developing bladder cancer, researchers in Sweden say.

Scientists said eating yogurt daily reduces the risk of developing bladder cancer by 45 percent in women and 36 percent in men. There was no similar benefit by eating other dairy products, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

“Cultured milk products, such as yogurt, contain lactic acid bacteria, which have been shown to suppress bladder cancer in rats,” the report by the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm said. “Our research suggests a high intake (of yogurt in humans) may reduce the risk.”

The Karolinska Institute followed 80,000 patients over nine years. Their findings were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
