OnePoint Patient Care Launches New Clinical Consulting and Cost Management Services for Hospices
Posted on: Wednesday, 22 October 2008, 12:00 CDT
OnePoint Patient Care, an independent hospice pharmacy services provider, launched today new clinical consulting and cost management programs designed to help its hospice partners provide superior, yet cost-effective palliative care for their patients. OnePoint operates dedicated hospice pharmacies and delivery fleets in each of its local markets, and it has now become the only hospice pharmacy services provider to offer such a local presence combined with clinical consulting and cost management services.
Included in OnePoint's suite of new clinical consulting services are:
-- drug screening based on terminal diagnosis; -- cost-containment programs designed to save hospices money; -- hospice-specific formulary management programs customized to meet the unique ordering needs of each hospice program; -- custom reporting and unified billing for multiple hospice sites; -- compliance assistance to ensure hospices adhere to the latest Medicare Conditions of Participation; -- participation in hospices' Interdisciplinary Groups and Pharmacy & Therapeutic committee meetings; and, -- a robust library of in-service educational programs designed to keep hospice team members informed of the latest developments in palliative care
Overseeing the delivery of these new services as OnePoint's new President of Clinical Consulting is Gregory P. Dyke, a pharmacist with more than 20 years of experience in the hospice field. Mr. Dyke joins OnePoint from Rainbow Hospice in Park Ridge, Ill., where he most recently served as Vice President of Palliative Services and New Business Development. While there, he successfully started and managed a program focused on clinically appropriate, cost effective medication management through clinical education, process improvement and cost effective contracting.
"One of the many benefits OnePoint Patient Care provides hospices is our ability to see things from the hospice's perspective, rather than just from the pharmacy's side," said Mr. Dyke. "This sensitivity to our hospice partners' needs led us to introduce these new services, which will greatly enhance their ability to provide the highest caliber care to their patients while relieving the pressure they are under to effectively manage costs and comply with complex and ever-changing regulations."
"We have long been known for the superior service we provide our hospice partners through our local pharmacies that fill their patients' prescriptions accurately and get them to their doorsteps promptly," said Jeffrey Hohl, President and Chief Operating Officer of OnePoint Patient Care. "As OnePoint has grown and our relationships with our hospice partners have deepened, adding clinical consulting and cost management programs was the next logical step in our evolution. We are proud to be the first to offer hospices this combination of services, which will help them provide the highest level and most cost-efficient care to their patients."
OnePoint Patient Care is the nation's leading local hospice pharmacy services provider, filling prescriptions, creating custom compounds and providing home deliveries for an average of 7,500 patients per day. The pharmacy's local operations provide 24-hour accessibility, personal interaction, accurate prescriptions and prompt delivery, allowing hospices to get patients their medications quickly, simply and reliably.
"We are in a very exciting period of growth at OnePoint, as we expand into new local markets and add these new services that allow our hospice partners to provide the best possible care to their patients," said James A. Otterbeck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OnePoint Patient Care. "Our unique service model is generating a lot of enthusiasm in the hospice market, and we plan to double our service area by 2009 to meet this growing demand."
