University Medical Center Selects SuccessFactors for 3,800 Employees

October 27, 2008

SuccessFactors, Inc. (NASDAQ:SFSF), the global leader in on-demand performance and talent management solutions, today announced that University Medical Center (UMC) has selected SuccessFactors’ integrated suite of Performance and Talent Management solutions for its 3,800 employees. UMC is focused on cultivating top talent within its organization by using SuccessFactors to manage employee goal setting and performance. Already recognized as one of the best companies to work for in Arizona, UMC seized the opportunity to expand on its people performance excellence by utilizing SuccessFactors’ solutions.

UMC is the primary teaching hospital of The University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health. Considered to be one of the top hospitals in the country, UMC is highly accredited and has received numerous awards including US News and World Report Top 100 Hospital Ranking and Thomson Top 100 Hospital. UMC also received the Best Practice Award from the Tucson, Ariz. 2008 Workplace Excellence Awards, and it was the first hospital in Arizona to achieve Magnet status by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center.

Over the last few years, UMC recognized that its rapidly growing staff quickly signaled that the hospital needed to continue its focus on performance and talent management to retain high performers, ensure quality patient care and also maintain its status as an employer-of-choice in Arizona. In evaluating SuccessFactors Performance and Talent Management solutions, UMC developed a three-year business plan and ROI evaluation to quantify the financial benefits from an improved focus on talent. The plan showed a great potential for cost savings by reducing turnover and increasing employee engagement and productivity.

UMC also selected SuccessFactors’ Job Description Manager, another solution widely embraced in patient care, which enables customers to create, track and measure competency-based job descriptions (for compliance requirements such as Joint Commission) in a single repository and pull pieces of job descriptions into evaluation forms. In the near future, UMC plans to implement additional SuccessFactors modules for managing compensation and succession planning.

“As a leader in our industry, we pride ourselves on our core values,” said John A. Marques, SPHR, vice president and chief human resources officer at UMC. “SuccessFactors has the tools that allow us to seek out and retain those employees that value personal responsibility, respect for others, teamwork and exhibit dedication to caring. These individuals are indispensable to our organization. Identifying, developing and retaining this talent is key to our recognized excellence as a leader and for our future growth.”

“University Medical Center is a great example of an organization that prioritizes its employees and sees the importance in continuing to expand its award-winning performance and talent management initiatives,” said Greg Nash, vice president of healthcare at SuccessFactors. “They recognize that on-demand software solutions can enable the organization to optimize its workforce by identifying and nurturing key talent. We’re pleased to count UMC as another visionary customer in the healthcare industry that is using SuccessFactors to energize their workforce.”

SuccessFactors continues to expand its footprint in the healthcare industry with specialized products, sales and implementation teams and product experts solely focused on patient care. SuccessFactors works with an umbrella of healthcare facilities – from teaching hospitals such as University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. to regional medical facilities such as Phelps County Regional Medical Center to integrated hospital networks like Danbury Health Systems, which is comprised of seven hospitals in Connecticut. The many hospitals and patient care facilities represent several hundred thousand patient care workers deployed on its suite, demonstrating SuccessFactors’ prominence in the patient care industry as a provider of human capital management solutions.

The SuccessFactors Performance and Talent Management Suite, which includes Performance Management, Goal Management, 360 Degree Reviews, Succession Management, Compensation Management, Learning and Development, Recruiting Management, Employee Profile, and Analytics and Reporting applications, creates a company-wide network of information related to employee performance, including skill-sets, interests, career aspirations, ability to relocate, experience, languages spoken and more. By providing deep, real-time, company-wide visibility into such critical performance data, companies are able to make better, more informed decisions about how to promote, recruit, compensate, reward and manage their entire employee base.
