CaliforniaChoice Introduces Two New Health Care Plans July 1; Now Offers Expanded Selection of Consumer-Directed Health Plans

Posted on: Thursday, 30 June 2005, 15:00 CDT

CaliforniaChoice, an employee-choice/consumer-driven health care program from CHOICE Administrators, announced today that it will introduce two all-new health care plans effective July 1: Active Choice 500(SM), a unique consumer-directed plan offering a savings on premiums for routine preventive care, and PPO 2400, an affordable PPO plan offering comprehensive coverage at a lower premium. Brokers now have even more selection in the CaliforniaChoice portfolio of plans, enhancing their ability to offer their clients multiple carriers and benefit designs with the cost savings of defined contribution and the ease of single-source administration.

Active Choice 500(SM) offers $500 "first dollar coverage" that members have available each year to use for preventive care services such as physicals, immunizations and diagnostic testing. If unused, the money carries over to the next calendar year. Once the money is spent, members pay l00 percent for services until they reach the co-payment maximum, then coinsurance benefits take over.

The PPO 2400 Plan is an excellent choice for members who want comprehensive coverage and do not desire to participate in an HSA.

With the addition of Active Choice 500(SM), CaliforniaChoice now offers two consumer-directed plans. Members may also choose the CalChoice HSA 2400, an existing plan that is compatible with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). The HSA 2400 is a consumer-driven health care product designed for members who want to take greater control in managing their health care decisions and dollars. This plan offers low monthly premiums in exchange for a higher annual deductible. Enrollees in the plan may choose to open an HSA at any time throughout the year, to save funds that can be used for out-of-pocket health care costs. Participation in the HSA is not a requirement for plan enrollment.

In the last year CaliforniaChoice formed partnerships with three FDIC-insured banking institutions to offer consumers an expanded choice of HSA solutions as part of a consumer-directed health care program. These HSA solutions can be created and managed through the secure CaliforniaChoice Web site, www.calchoice.com.
