Mobile Aspects Develops Innovative New Solution to Improve Endoscope Management Using RFID Technology
Posted on: Wednesday, 29 October 2008, 09:00 CDT
Mobile Aspects announced today the development of a pioneering new solution to improve the management, utilization and reprocessing of endoscope equipment for healthcare providers. Called iRIScope(TM), this innovative solution leverages the unique attributes of Mobile Aspects' patented RFID technology and expands their product portfolio to solve additional needs within surgical specialty care.
With the rapid growth of non-invasive procedures in areas such as gastroenterology, many healthcare facilities have invested heavily in the acquisition of endoscope equipment, often an investment exceeding a million dollars. Unfortunately, in storing and utilizing this expensive equipment in busy, high traffic areas many instances of theft have been well documented. In addition, given its clinical application within the human body, stringent protocols are mandated for the disinfection and reprocessing of the equipment. With breakdowns in these reprocessing protocols, significant risks for cross-contamination of equipment and patient infection can emerge.
Through the development of iRIScope, Mobile Aspects has leveraged RFID technology along with workflow automation software to address these complex issues, and many more. The cabinet-based solution secures endoscopes and manages access to the instruments while tracking utilization, repair, and compliance with disinfection protocols. In addition to managing the equipment, the system advances patient safety in a variety of ways, most notably allowing for the automatic association of individual patients to unique endoscopes and procedures. Lastly, through work stations that automate reprocessing documentation during high level disinfection, care providers can be assured they follow the necessary protocols to mitigate any risk for cross-contamination or patient infection.
"The development of iRIScope is another example of our ability to sustain our position as the leader in creating RFID enabled solutions for healthcare through innovative, leading edge technology to solve complex operational issues," shared Suneil Mandava, President and CEO of Mobile Aspects. "More importantly, given today's pressures on healthcare providers for care quality and economic performance, this solution delivers a clear return on investment and improved care quality to align with immediate financial and clinical imperatives within the hospital environment."
Mobile Aspects will be debuting iRIScope at the Managing Today's OR Suite conference being held October 29-31 in Washington, D.C. In addition to other Mobile Aspects technologies such as iRISupply(TM), iRIScan(TM), iRISecure(TM), and VistaTrak(TM), iRIScope will continue to provide the clinical specialties such as cardiology, radiology, and perioperative services with a powerful set of solutions to improve performance.
