Innovative Sawgrass Plans Launch With Broward Health

November 4, 2008

Sawgrass Plans, a new group and individual health insurance “Micro-Plan”, located in Broward county, was launched in cooperation with Broward Health (BH). A Micro-Plan is an affordable suite of health insurance benefit plans centered around a specific localized group of hospitals and doctors.

The Sawgrass network is specifically tied to BH which is one of the top ten largest public health systems in the nation located in northern Broward County, Florida. With more than 1,200 credentialed physicians system-wide, Broward Health is an excellent system for implementing new and improved options for healthcare consumer, announced Sawgrass Plans co-founder Charles T. O’Neill.

Premiums for the Sawgrass Plans are significantly less than other health plans sold in Broward County, some up to 30% cheaper, O’Neill said. The difference in the plans is that Broward Health provides Members their in-network benefits exclusively.

“Our innovative Micro-Plan concept of bringing localized healthcare back to Florida by providing specific delivery systems alleviates many Consumer’s concerns for pricing of their health plans while maintaining quality healthcare,” O’Neill said. “The benefit to Sawgrass Members is that they have access to four high quality hospitals and almost any healthcare service they would ever need right in their neighborhood.”

“Our goal is to offer many options for our patients and physicians. We need to be creative and innovative in the products we use and Sawgrass Plans offers us and their Members another option for healthcare. We are happy to be doing business with them,” said Joe Rogers, SVP of Business Development and Managed Care for Broward Health.

O’Neill noted that if Broward Health did not provide a specific healthcare service through its delivery system, Members have the ability to seek care through a larger contracted network.

Hospitals included in the Sawgrass Network are Broward Health Broward General Medical Center, Broward Health North Broward Medical Center, Broward Health Imperial Point Medical Center and the Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Center. The four hospitals provide 1,529 hospital beds to Broward residents. The network includes more than 1,200 physicians, five urgent care centers and more than 30 ancillary providers.

Micro-Plans are the newest creation in new health insurance products in Florida and are designed to:

— Provide quality local healthcare coverage to Sawgrass Plan Members.

— Significantly reduce premiums for services through specific hospital networks and provider options.

— Provide individual and group plans with a wide array of benefit options.

— Work with local hospital systems to create better awareness regarding what consumers need to know about their healthcare and their insurance coverage.

“Consumers are going to need to teach themselves about health insurance coverage in the changing healthcare landscape, whether they are buying an individual policy or one through their employer,” O’Neill said. “Micro-Plans are a new way to make everyone more comfortable with their healthcare buying decision.”
