Cogent's Mike Hawkins, M.D. Receives American College of Physicians' Award

Cogent Healthcare congratulates Mike Hawkins, M.D., Regional Medical Director, for receiving the James A. McFarland, MD, FACP Award from the South Carolina chapter of American College of Physicians.
Presented on an annual basis, the award honors board-certified internists who have been involved in patient care in academic or private practice settings and have practiced in South Carolina. Awardees, nominated by a their peers, are physicians who have demonstrated ongoing scholarship in the academic and/or clinical setting, are actively involved in teaching at any and all levels.

Dr. Hawkins joined Cogent in 2006, and currently serves as Regional Medical Director for the southeast region. Before joining Cogent, Dr. Hawkins developed a hospitalist program in Walterboro, SC, where he served as program director for eight years. Along with a small team of physicians, he also helped create the first hospitalist program at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. He currently serves on the Membership Committee for the Society for Hospital Medicine where he previously served on the Task Force Initiative for Observation Units. Dr. Hawkins is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and is a recipient of several awards, including the American Red Cross Regional Doctor of the Year.
