Mediware Licenses BiologiCare to Hospital for Special Surgery

Mediware Information Systems, a provider of blood and medication management software systems, has announced that the Hospital for Special Surgery has licensed BiologiCare, the company's latest product focused on the safe and efficient management of bones, tissues and other biologic products used in surgeries and other patient therapies.

Hospital procedures range from the use of bone chips, tendons and other tissues in surgeries, organ replacements, and marrow and stem cell transplantations in more advanced therapies. BiologiCare provides an enterprise-wide, automated system to track where these materials were obtained, where and how they are stored, and where they were used.

BiologiCare is said to be the first commercial-grade system available in the US that is designed specifically to track and trace these materials. Using BiologiCare, hospitals are able to centralize management of bone, tissue and other biologic material in a clinical information system to meet regulatory requirements for patient safety, the company said.

Kelly Mann, Mediware's president and CEO, said: "We are pleased to extend our relationship with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) through this new initiative. As one of the nation's premier surgical institutions, we look forward to working with HSS to complete a successful implementation of BiologiCare."
