HONOLULU, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Hoana Medical, Inc. and Hawaii Medical Assurance Association (HMAA) have announced that HMAA is adding Hoana's LifeBed Patient Vigilance System to the list of paid medical benefits provided to all HMAA members. HMAA is the first insurance provider in Hawaii to embrace the cutting-edge vigilance technology provided by the LifeBed system and offer it as a paid benefit to its members hospitalized at participating hospitals with the LifeBed system, such as Queens Medical Center.
"We are committed to helping provide the latest in health care benefits to our members," said John Henry Felix, Chairman, President and CEO of HMAA. "The LifeBed represents the most innovative patient safety technology available to date and it mirrors our dedication to keeping our members healthy and safe."
"We congratulate HMAA on their visionary leadership regarding patient safety," said Dr. Patrick Sullivan, chief executive officer of Hoana Medical, Inc. "By providing the LifeBed system to its members, HMAA is ensuring that each of its members has access to groundbreaking medical technology designed to ensure patient safety in the hospital setting."
The patented LifeBed(TM) Patient Vigilance System technology transforms any hospital bed into a "LifeBed," which invisibly tracks a patient's basic vital signs without any connection to the patient whatsoever. That means patients can simply rest in bed while the bedside unit detects their heart rate, respiratory rate and whether or not they are attempting to get out of bed, if fall risk is a concern.
More than 40 percent of unexpected deaths nationwide occur on the general care floor and, with a federal and national focus on patient safety; the need for technology that enhances patient vigilance is greater than ever before. The LifeBed patient vigilance system supports nurses by alerting them about changes in patient conditions as soon as they occur. Hoana's experience on more than 15,000 individual patients around the United States has shown that the LifeBed system has made a significant impact on the lives of patients and nurses.
About Hoana Medical, Inc.
Launched in 2002, Hoana Medical, Inc. is the world's leading healthcare company focused on "Intelligent Medical Vigilance" in acute care hospitals where approximately 200,000 people die from errors and mistakes. Its first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared offering, the LifeBed(TM) Patient Vigilance System ("LifeBed"), transforms any hospital bed into a LifeBed(TM) System by tracking a patient's vital signs without any wires or connections to the patient. It delivers "Vigilance" in an un-tethered and invisible manner, however, if the patient is in trouble, the LifeBed(TM) System calls for help. Experience on more than 12,000 individual hospital patients around the U.S. has yielded dramatic stories of nurses intervening to save a patient's life. Hoana is headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii.
