Pervasis Therapeutics to Present Safety and Efficacy Data From Phase 1 and 2 Clinical Trials of Vascugel(R) at the 35th Annual VEITHsymposium(TM)

Pervasis Therapeutics, Inc., a biotechnology company pioneering biologically active therapies and devices to treat serious illnesses, today announced that safety and efficacy data from the Company's Phase 1 and Phase 2 V-HEALTH (Vascular intimal Hyperplasia: Extending Arterial and venous patency, Limiting vascular Trauma, and inhibiting Hyperplasia while re-establishing vascular health) trials will be presented at the 35th Annual VEITHsymposium(TM) in New York City, New York. In V-HEALTH, Vascugel(R) is being studied in patients with end-stage renal disease that need permanent arteriovenous (AV) access for hemodialysis.
The presentation, entitled "Vascugel(R) Wrap" will be presented by Jeffrey Lawson, M.D., Ph.D., Department of Vascular Surgery, Duke University Medical Center, on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 3:35 p.m. (EST) during the "Hemodialysis Access: Update On New Technologies In Hemodialysis Access" section of the symposium.
"We look forward to presenting the safety and efficacy data from our V-HEALTH trials at the VEITHsymposium(TM)," stated Frederic Chereau, president and chief executive officer of Pervasis Therapeutics. "These data build on the safety data presented earlier this month at the American Society of Nephrology Annual Meeting that found that patients with end-stage renal disease treated with Vascugel(R) had lower incidences of complications following the creation of AV access graft and AV fistula in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Vascugel(R) is the Company's first therapy being developed to improve outcomes for dialysis patients needing surgical AV access. This is the lead indication for our platform technology and opens the door to broader indications both in open surgical indications as well as minimally invasive application."
About Vascugel(R)
Vascugel(R) is a novel and unique allogeneic cell therapy product under investigation for enhancing repair, extending patency and vascular health. Vascugel(R) builds on concepts of tissue engineering to enable implantation of allogeneic endothelial cells in a controlled state. When placed adjacent to an injured blood vessel, the endothelial cells in Vascugel(R) provide growth regulatory compounds to the underlying blood vessel, which promotes a natural healing process and may prevent excessive inflammation, thrombosis and stenosis. Vascugel(R) has been studied in two Phase1/Phase 2 clinical trials in patients with end stage renal disease.
