APWU Health Plan Takes Lead in Introducing New Hearing Benefit and Cap on Prescription Drug Costs
GLEN BURNIE, Md., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Postal Workers (APWU) Health Plan will introduce new benefits in 2009, while continuing to offer some of the lowest premium costs in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP).
"APWU Health Plan will provide a new hearing benefit for 2009 that covers diagnostic hearing tests and hearing aids," said William J. Kaczor, Jr., Director of APWU Health Plan. "The National Institutes of Health reports that twenty-two million American adults between the ages of twenty and sixty-nine have permanent hearing damage from exposure to loud sounds, and thirty million are at risk. We are pleased to take the lead in the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program by offering coverage that we believe will benefit so many."Also new for 2009 is a maximum on prescription drugs. "This is another important protection," said Kaczor. "With this new maximum, we are providing members with added safeguards for prescription drug costs." Beginning in 2009, there will be a maximum of $200 per prescription when network retail pharmacies are used; and a maximum of $600 per prescription when the network mail order pharmacy is used.
Federal and postal employees and retirees can enroll in a health plan or change their enrollment during the federal Open Season. This year, Open Season is November 10 through December 8, 2008.
The American Postal Workers Union Health Plan provides health coverage programs that are open to employees or retirees covered under the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program. The Health Plan is a department of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO. The APWU Health Plan has been serving its members since 1960, when the FEHB Program first began.
