Joe's Sports & Outdoor In-Store Promotion Raises $18,000 for the Children's Cancer Association

Posted on: Thursday, 4 December 2008, 18:30 CST

PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Joe's Sports & Outdoor stores across the Pacific Northwest raised more than $18,000 during the months of August and September for the Children's Cancer Association (CCA). For the third consecutive year, Joe's provided shoppers the opportunity to showcase their compassion and generosity by donating to CCA at checkout stands in all stores.

CCA Founder and CEO, Regina Ellis, said, "Once again, we are pleased to receive the generous support of Joe's Sports & Outdoor. The amount of money raised this year reflects the commitment of Joe's store employees, and their customers, to helping those less fortunate."

The Joe's Sports & Outdoor Foundation has also awarded a $5,000 grant to support CCA's Caring Cabin. Funds will be used to purchase a tractor so that improvements can be made to the lake's waterfront to increase accessibility. This latest grant brings the total funds awarded to CCA from the Joe's Foundation to just over $65,000.

Established in 2002, the Joe's Sports & Outdoor Foundation works to improve the lives of youth in the areas where Joe's stores are located by providing financial support to qualified charitable organizations and community-based programs. Organizations who have received grants in the past include Special Olympics and the Children's Cancer Association. Grants have also funded school athletic field lighting, team uniforms, scouting activities and much more.

Founded in 1995, the Children's Cancer Association is dedicated to bringing the healing power of compassion, music and friendship to seriously ill children and their families when they need it most. Fueled by thousands of supporters and volunteers and available at no cost to families, CCA's award- winning, innovative programs include the in-hospital Music Rx(R) program, the Chemo Pal(R) mentor program, the LifeSupport Family Enrichment program, and the Caring Cabin(R) retreat home on the Oregon coast. http://www.ChildrensCancerAssociation.org.
