CLEVELAND, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ — To fill the positions made vacant by the
tragic death of Kent Clapp last Wednesday, the Medical Mutual of Ohio Board of
Directors named interim co-chairmen of the Board, a management committee and
an interim CEO at a special meeting last night.

Samuel Miller, co-chairman of Forest City Enterprises, and David Young, a
retired partner with the law firm Squire, Sanders and Dempsey, were named the
interim co-chairs. The management committee consists of Young, Miller, James
V. Patton
, a retired Medical Mutual executive, and Charles A. Bryan, a retired
Nationwide Insurance Co. executive. Bryan was also named the acting CEO.

“We will diligently, thoughtfully and yet as quickly as possible move to
select the right individual to lead Medical Mutual for the long term,” said
Bryan. “We are fortunate that Kent left the company financially sound and with
a strong senior management team. Our customers can be assured that Medical
Mutual will continue to serve them at the high level they have come to
expect.”

Bryan added that the search for the new chief executive officer would
start with a review of internal candidates and would move to a broader search
outside the company if necessary. “We do have the good fortune to have quality
candidates already on staff,” said Bryan. Clapp held the titles of chairman,
president and CEO.

“We haven’t put a time limit on this process,” Bryan said, “but we believe
that we should be able to have new leadership in place early in 2009.”

Bryan has 35 years of experience as a business executive with Nationwide
Insurance, Ernst and Young, United Services Automobile Association (USAA) and
Allstate Insurance. He is also an adjunct professor in the Finance area at the
Ohio State University, and he has been on the Medical Mutual board since 2001.

Clapp died December 3 in a private plane crash in Puerto Rico while
returning to Cleveland after vacationing in the Caribbean. His fiancee, Tracy
Turner
, and the pilot of the airplane also died in the crash.
