WuXi PharmaTech (NYSE: WX) Holds Its Second Life Science and Chemistry Awards Ceremony in Beijing

SHANGHAI, China, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — WuXi PharmaTech (NYSE: WX),

announced today that the company successfully held its second Life Science and
Chemistry Awards Ceremony on December 7, 2008 at the Great Hall of the People,
Beijing, China.

With the whole process starting in July, the second “WuXi PharmaTech Life
Science and Chemistry Award” set the scope of the selection as preclinical
pharmacology and toxicology. This year’s selection panel was comprised of
eleven scholars with industry expertise. Dr. Sang Guowei, Vice Chairman of the
Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, served as Chairman of
the selection panel. Other panel members included Dr. Wang Li, Professor of
Sichuan University and Director of Chendu Traditional Chinese Medicine Safety
Evaluation Center, Dr Li Bo, Director of the National Center for Safety
Evaluation of Drugs, Dr. Li Ge, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WuXi
PharmaTech, Dr. Zhang Yongxiang, Vice Director of the Science and Technology
Department of Academy of Military Medical Sciences and Researcher of Research
Institute of Drugs and Toxicants, Dr. Chen Kaixian, President of the Shanghai
University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Academician of Chinese Academy
of Sciences, Dr. Chen Shuhui, Chief Scientific Officer of WuXi PharmaTech, Dr.
Lin Guoqiang, Professor of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry,
Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr.

Sciences.

Twelve winners were selected through rigorous, objective and transparent
evaluation. Dr. Wang Guangji, Vice President of China Pharmaceutical
University, won the Special Prize. The First Prize winners are Dr. Ren Jin,
Director of Safety Evaluation Center of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica,
Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dr. Li Chuan, Researcher of Shanghai Institute
of Materia Medica Chinese Academy of Sciences. The Second Prize winners are Dr.

Ma Jin, Director of the National Shanghai Center for New Drug Safety
Evaluation and Research, Dr. Zhu Yichun, Professor of Fudan University, Dr. Lu
Guocai, Director of New Drug Safety Evaluation of Second Military Medical
University, and Dr. Guo Qinglong, Professor of Department of Physiology of
China Pharmaceutical University. The Third Prize winners are Dr. Wang Quanjun,
Vice Group Leader of the General Toxicology Group of the National Beijing
Center for New Drug Safety Evaluation Research of Research Institute of Drugs
and Toxicants of Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Dr. Mao Yu, Researcher
of New Drug Safety Evaluation of Second Military Medical University, Dr. Yang
Jingyu, Associate Dean for Life Science and Biopharmaceuticals in Shenyang
Pharmaceutical University, Dr. Jiang Dejian, Vice Researcher of the Department
of Pharmacology of Pharmaceutical Faculty in Central South University and Dr.
Ju Zhenyu, Associate Professor of the Institute of Laboratory Animal Science,
Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

About WuXi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award

The WuXi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award was approved and
endorsed by the National Office of Science and Technology Awards in February,
2007, designed to promote China’s scientific and technological development.
WuXi PharmaTech will reward young professionals of Chinese citizenship who
make an outstanding achievement in the field of chemistry, biology, or other
life science related disciplines. Each year the scope of the award selection
will be settled on chemistry, toxicology, biology, pharmacology or one of the
related fields.

WuXi PharmaTech provides one million RMB to fund such an annual award
beginning in 2007. The Special Prize winners, First Prize winners, Second
Prize winners and Third Prize winners will get a reward of 200,000 RMB,
100,000 RMB, 50,000 RMB and 20,000 RMB respectively.

In the first half of the calendar year the award organization settles the
scope of the award selection and announces the selection procedure on the
corporate website and in related academic journals. Applications are accepted
through both individual submission and recommendations by scholars and
professors in the related fields. In the second half of the calendar year a
selection panel is built to conduct the award selection and the company will
hold the awards ceremony at the end of the year.
