Dr. John Stephen Osika, HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Expert, Joins Abt Associates

Public Health Physician Spent Last 10 Years Helping Implement World Bank HIV/AIDS and Malaria Initiatives

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Abt Associates announced that Dr. John Osika has joined the company as a Principal Associate and HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Advisor. Dr. Osika, a board certified physician in the United Kingdom and European Union, is a recognized public health expert with extensive experience working on HIV/AIDS and infectious disease programs.

Over his 21 year professional career he has provided technical leadership to the World Bank's landmark Roll Back Malaria initiative and served as the Bank's principal source of technical advice and leadership on malaria programs and policy. Since 2000, he has used his infectious disease expertise and public health technical skills to provide leadership to World Bank HIV/AIDS programs throughout the world. During this time Dr. Osika has earned a stellar reputation as a technical leader and highly effective source of technical and policy support to World Bank-funded HIV/AIDS programs, including programs being implemented under extremely difficult circumstances. Prior to working for the World Bank, Dr. Osika served as Assistant Professor in Public Health Medicine at the University of Wales and as Registrar in Public Health Medicine for the British National Health Service.

Dr. Osika received his M.D. from Minsk State Medical University, Belarus; a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Leeds, England; and a Master of Health Management and Planning degree from the University of Leeds. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal Colleges of Physicians, United Kingdom.
