“THERMOFOCUS is the first non contact clinical thermometer in the world to provide instantaneous and precise digital measurements and has a patented quick temperature stabilisation system with automatic and manual settings,” notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst
THERMOFOCUS is a safe, harmless and multipurpose thermometer designed to measure body temperature without any contact with the body skin or mucosae. It is perfect for babies and infants as it provides safe, immediate and accurate digital measurement without causing any discomfort. The body temperature is measured by pointing the THERMOFOCUS at the center of the forehead or the umbilical area.
The right distance to take the temperature measurement, which is usually 3 cm, is easily determined in THERMOFOCUS when the two beams converge to form a single red spot. THERMOFOCUS is held still at this point for about half a second after the button is released, till the light flashes, which indicates the completion of temperature measurement. The beams are absolutely harmless and are not a matter of concern if pointed accidentally into the eyes.
THERMOFOCUS has a range of temperature measurement between 1 to 55 degrees C (33.8 to 130.8 degrees F). It can be used to check the temperature of a feeding bottle, bath water, soup, room windows, among other things. The device can be used to scan the temperature of a certain area of the skin, allowing the detection of anomalies, inflammations and blood circulation problems.
The new versions of THERMOFOCUS have two patented systems to stabilize to the room temperature; one, the Automatic Quick Calibration System which needs about 5 minutes for the device to stabilize and, second, the Manual Quick Calibration System which requires only 3 seconds for the temperature to stabilize. This makes it suitable for use in ambulances and for doctors and in hospitals where the ambient temperature can change from room to room.
“The device is highly flexible and can be used despite the child crying or perspiring or, where it is difficult to measure the temperature on the forehead,” states Munshi. “The temperature, in that case, can be measured on the navel or in the armpit or on the neck under the auricle”.
THERMOFOCUS is also an economical substitute for the commonly used ear thermometers in hospitals. In contrast to other thermometers, it does not require disinfection after every use nor does it need expensive hygienic and disposable covers.
“Temperature measurements can be taken easily for a large number of patients without having to worry about changing the thermometer probe cover,” adds Munshi. “It is estimated that each THERMOFOCUS allows a hospital to save
“It can also be used on open wounds and internal organs during surgeries as it is non contact,” Munshi continues. “The device has great appeal to pediatricians due to its ease of use and wide application range”.
