WESTCHESTER, Ill., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- EngagementHealth(R) is one of the first participants in the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Wellness & Health Promotion Accreditation Program, which launched in mid-December. As one of just 16 organizations to step forward to be surveyed, EngagementHealth(R) is demonstrating ongoing dedication to industry-defined program standards and measures.

NCQA's standardized measures enable employers to make informed comparisons of programs, and to choose one with proven quality and value. According to the Wellness Councils of America, more than 81 percent of businesses with 50 or more employees have a health promotion program.

"Preventable chronic disease accounts for approximately 75 percent of what we spend on healthcare each year," said Ted Theophilos, chief executive officer of EngagementHealth LLC. "Companies are looking for programs that lower the costs and burdens of these diseases, and help employees to better manage their own health. The NCQA's accreditation gives plan participants an independent gold standard when evaluating wellness program quality."

Illinois-based EngagementHealth(R) provides individualized, targeted disease prevention and health promotion programs for organizations nationwide. It brings the employer or plan sponsor a complete solution that is reinforced and monitored through online

Personal Prevention Profiles, Targeted Risk Programs, onsite health kiosks and a telephonic interactive voice response system, and Health Counselors.

"EngagementHealth has distinguished itself by committing to be among the first wellness organizations to demonstrate compliance with well-defined standards and quality measures," said Margaret O'Kane, NCQA president. "The NCQA seal will provide employers and consumers with information they need to choose the best program in their markets."

NCQA's Wellness & Health Promotion Accreditation assesses key areas of health promotion, including the implementation of wellness programs in the work place, coaching and other services that help participants develop the skills they need to make healthy choices and the safeguarding of health information for individuals.
