Franco Nuschese Tapped by Robert C. Gallo Foundation for AIDS and Virus Research

"It is an honor to have a person of Franco's caliber spearheading the foundation's International Relations department," said Dr. Gallo, who is most widely known as co-discoverer of the HIV virus and developer of the first HIV blood test. "Franco will be a superb liaison in raising awareness among global organizations and foreign governments about our ongoing work -- including laboratorial research and clinical care to more than 5,000 Baltimoreans and 250,000 Africans."
"I approach this challenge with the utmost determination to do what is necessary to help in the fight against HIV," said Nuschese. "I will use all the resources I can to help fulfill the Foundation's mission to bring an end to this tragic epidemic."
The Gallo Foundation provides funding for Dr. Gallo and his team and other organizations that perform distinguished and creative scientific and translational research in the field of human virology and cancer, with a primary focus on HIV. In his new role, Nuschese will connect those around the world who wish to see an end to the AIDS epidemic, with the researchers who can bring this result to fruition. He will provide excellent opportunities for international governments to build capacity in the area of biomedical research, prevention and treatment.
