Dr. Ricky Takai, Expert in Designing and Managing Federal Evaluation Studies in Education, Joins Abt Associates

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Abt Associates announced that Ricky Takai, Ph.D., has joined the company as Principal Associate. After a brief orientation to the firm, Dr. Takai will become the leader of the company's education work in September 2009. Dr. Takai brings his more than 20 years experience in the design and management of federal evaluation studies in the field of education to the company.

Most recently, Dr. Takai served as Associate Commissioner in the National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance, Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education. In this role he was responsible for national evaluations of major federal education programs including Title I and IDEA. Prior to that, Dr. Takai served as the division director for program evaluation in the Planning and Evaluation Service. He has directed program evaluations in a wide range of education areas such as early reading, educational technology, professional development, math and science education, drug prevention, dropout prevention, high school reform, vocational and adult education, and postsecondary education. In addition, Dr. Takai has served as the Acting Assistant Secretary in the Office of Educational Research and Improvement and the Office of Vocational and Adult Education.

In 1996 and 2006, Dr. Takai received Presidential Rank Awards. Dr. Takai holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. from Washington College.
