Posted on: Tuesday, 3 February 2009, 10:01 CST

CLEVELAND, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Prayers From Maria - Children's Glioma Cancer Foundation will be hosting its second annual Sunflower Soiree.

WHAT: The Sunflower Soiree WHEN: 7 p.m. - 1 a.m., Saturday, February 21, 2009 WHERE: The Corner Alley, 402 Euclid Ave., Downtown Cleveland PRICE: $100.00/person HOW: Contact Tara (330.819.7280) or Rosalie (216.536.5795) or email taraandrosalie@prayersfrommaria.org.

The first Sunflower Soiree had a crowd of more than 400 people and was named the "2008 Best New Event of the Year" by The Plain Dealer. This year guests will enjoy an evening of music and bowling, silent & live auctions with fabulous items, open bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Dress attire for the event casual chic.

With a mission of funding global research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for childhood brain tumors known as gliomas, Prayers From Maria - Children's Glioma Cancer Foundation, was founded in 2006 by Ed and Megan McNamara. The foundation receives considerable support from the community-at-large. The dedication of its volunteer base is echoed by Maureen Smith: "I got involved with the Prayers From Maria when I realized I could help a neighbor and fellow parishioner with an organization that would help find a cure for a serious childhood cancer. When you have children of your own, you cannot imagine the heartache someone goes through when they lose a child like Ed and Megan did. And despite that loss, they have remained an example of faith and generosity to all parents who have similar tragedies in their lives. Taking care of the Foundation's financial needs was just a small favor I could do for Ed and Megan. I smile every time I see a sunflower!"

In addition to a dedicated volunteer base, Prayers From Maria - Children's Glioma Cancer Foundation has a Medical Board that consists of highly venerable doctors who are committed to eradicating the childhood disease. Because gliomas are grossly under funded, the McNamara family is diligently working to make a difference by raising public awareness and bringing hope to children and their families who live with this disease. This year, the Foundation will be awarding their first grant of $100,000 to desperately needed research. To learn more: www.prayersfrommaria.org
