American College of Medical Genetics Foundation Unveils New Website: ACMG Foundation Supports Medical Genetics Research, Education and Practice

Posted on: Tuesday, 3 February 2009, 10:50 CST

BETHESDA, Md., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American College of Medical Genetics Foundation (ACMGF) has unveiled a new website at www.acmgfoundation.org. "The new ACMG Foundation website is not only a great way to learn about what the Foundation is but also to see first-hand how the initiatives of the ACMG and the Foundation save lives and improve human health through the translation of genetic discoveries into better patient care," says R. Rodney Howell, MD, FACMG, President of the ACMGF.

The ACMG Foundation site includes:

-- Feature stories about how the Foundation is transforming lives through its support of genetics research, education and practice

-- Tributes from people who have benefited from the work of ACMG and the ACMG Foundation

-- News about ACMGF awards and grants and how to apply for them

-- An online donation section

-- Calendar of special events

-- Opportunities for corporate sponsorships and partnerships

-- The ability to honor or memorialize a loved one through a "tribute" gift

-- Honor role of annual and major gift contributors

"There is much to celebrate at both the College and the ACMG Foundation," concluded Dr. Howell. "ACMG and the Foundation have grown from a small specialty to one that is an important force for change in how patients can be helped and lives drastically improved or even lives saved using the ever-expanding knowledge of the human genome."

ACMG President Joe Leigh Simpson, MD, FACMG added, "Without the ACMG Foundation's timely support, the application of medical genetics advances would not be so advanced in the U.S. There is, however, still much work to be done in translating the enormous body of scientific information concerning the human genome into safe and effective medical practices. I encourage everyone to visit the ACMGF site to learn how they can help further advances and save lives through a donation."
