AMERIGROUP Corporation Elects Emerson U. Fullwood to Board of Directors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Feb. 11, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMERIGROUP Corporation (NYSE: AGP) announced today that Emerson U. Fullwood, a retired senior executive officer of Xerox Corporation, has been unanimously elected to the Company's Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors elected Fullwood to a term that begins today and runs through May 7, 2009, the date of the Company's Annual Meeting of Stockholders. The Board also nominated Fullwood and two other current Directors, William J. McBride and Thomas E. Capps, to stand for reelection to the Corporation's Board of Directors for three-year terms ending at the Annual Meeting of Stockholders in 2012.

Fullwood spent more than 36 years at Xerox and was Executive Chief Staff and Marketing Officer, North America in his last leadership assignment prior to his retirement. In 2007, Black Enterprise magazine named Fullwood one of the "75 Most Powerful African-Americans in Corporate America." He served for 12 years as a Xerox Corporate Officer. Fullwood joined Xerox in 1972 as a sales representative and advanced through a variety of senior management and marketing positions in that company's national and international operations.

Fullwood currently serves on the Board of Directors of Vanguard Group, a global investment management company, and SPX Corporation, an equipment manufacturer. He previously served on the Board of equipment manufacturer General Signal Corporation.

A resident of the Rochester, N.Y., area, Fullwood is active in community affairs. He serves on the boards of Rochester Urban League, Monroe Community College Foundation, Boy Scouts of America and Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. In addition, he is an active leader with the United Way of Greater Rochester. He received a Bachelor's degree in Economics from North Carolina State University, a Master's in Business Administration from Columbia University and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from North Carolina A&T University.

McBride, who has served on the AMERIGROUP Board of Directors since 1995, is retired President, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Value Health, Inc. and retired President and Chief Executive Officer of CIGNA Healthplans, Inc. Capps, who has served on the AMERIGROUP Board of Directors since 2004, is retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dominion Resources, Inc.
