St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center and Centura Health Celebrate Heart Month

PUEBLO, Colo., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center joins Centura Health, Colorado's innovative leader in cardiovascular care, to observe Heart Month throughout the month of February. The celebration includes free educational events and consumer promotions to provide southern Colorado communities with heart-health information and awareness of heart disease -- the leading cause of death among Coloradans.

Centura has partnered with several retailers throughout the state to introduce the Centura Health Heart Card. Consumers who log on to www.CenturaHeart.org and validate the card will receive a free heart-healthy sampler filled with special offers from retail partners, along with educational resources, state-of-the-art treatment technologies and world-class cardiovascular specialists at Centura facilities throughout the state. Consumers can download coupons for heart-healthy incentives, such as:

• Free one-day pass to any YMCA facility in Colorado.
• One-pound bag of California almonds (no purchase necessary) and a heart-health nutritional information flyer, courtesy of Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage at all Front Range and Summit County stores.
• Price off the purchase of tea at any Two Leaves and a Bud distributor in the state.
• Free side salad with the purchase of an entree at all Applebee's restaurants on the Front Range.

Women are invited to attend the annual Pamper Your Heart women's heart health event on Wednesday, February 25. The event will be held from 9 am - 1 pm in the Occhiato Student Center Ballroom. This year the event will include health screenings, heart health informational booths, breakout sessions on how fitness, diabetes and sleep disorders can impact heart health, heart health nutrition and a luncheon with keynote speaker Dr. Michael Hansa from Pueblo Cardiology. There will be door prizes and a free gift. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 719-557-4504.

Online heart health assessments and healthy heart information is available at centuraheart.org. While online, visitors can apply for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) grant through the "Jump Start a Heart Program." AED grants up to $2,500 are awarded to non-profit organizations such as schools, churches, senior centers, camps and community organizations. Another feature of the Web site is the Invision Guide to a Healthy Heart. Centura is the first healthcare system in the country to provide this incredible 3-D tool to educate the consumer on the heart, how it functions, what problems can occur (i.e. heart attack) and what can be done to improve heart health.
