SCAN's Thomas Lescault Elected President of New Arizona Association of Health Plans

PHOENIX, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas Lescault, president of SCAN Long Term Care and SCAN Health Plan Arizona, has been elected president of the new Arizona Association of Health Plans.

"The new association intends to be part of the solution of providing accessible, affordable healthcare here in Arizona," said Lescault. "As president I look forward to working cooperatively with the Arizona Legislature and the governor's office in adjusting the state health budget in a fair and responsible manner so this can become a reality."

Also elected as officers of the new association were William Hagan, president of Arizona Physicians IPA, as vice president and Kathleen Oestreich, president of University Family Care, as secretary/treasurer.

In addition to the three health plans represented by the newly elected officers, the four other Arizona health plans that are members of the association are Care1st Health Plan Arizona, Health Choice Arizona, Mercy Care Plan and Phoenix Health Plan. Kathryn Busby, an Arizona lawyer and experienced healthcare advocate, is its executive director.

Formed in December 2008, the association is dedicated to fostering and maintaining the cost-efficient and quality delivery of health care services to Arizonans with these goals:

• Assuring that every effort is made to make healthcare affordable and accessible in Arizona.
• Expanding membership and collaboration to include other Arizona commercial and public health plans to reach more Arizonans.
• Supporting the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the Arizona Medicaid program, and a national leader in quality service featuring the lowest Medicaid per-member cost of any state.
• Partnering with health providers so that appropriate medical services are delivered to patients and providers are compensated in a fair and timely manner.

For more than 30 years, SCAN Health Plan has been focusing on the unique needs of people with Medicare and today is the fourth-largest nonprofit Medicare Advantage Plan in the United States. In Arizona, SCAN offers a health plan for Medicare and Medicaid-eligible individuals, provides long-term care services to individuals enrolled in the state's long-term care system in Maricopa County, and this year began offering a Medicare Advantage Plan in Maricopa County.
