NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire/ — Throughout the month of March, the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter will raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and Chapter services. This is due to the generosity of EHE International which has invited the organization to construct a 115-square foot display in its window at 10 Rockefeller Plaza.

This display features the Alzheimer’s Association “Celebrity Champions” video, a three minute photo montage showcasing celebrities including David Hyde Pierce, Natalie Morales, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Peter Gallagher, Dominic Chianese, Wayne Brady and Lea Thompson and their support for the cause.

Every 71 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s disease. Currently, there are 5.2 million Americans with Alzheimer’s and over 250,000 live in the five boroughs of New York City. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S.

“In less than 50 years, without prevention or a cure, one in five New Yorkers will either have the disease or be taking care of someone who does,” said Lou-Ellen Barkan, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter. “We want to thank EHE International for the generous donation of their display window. This will help us spread awareness and vital information about Alzheimer’s disease and critical Chapter services to the tens of thousands of people who walk through Rockefeller Center each day.”

The Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter offers myriad of resources for people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Among these are caregiver support groups and educational meetings, as well as special early stage services for those in the early stage of Alzheimer’s and dementia and their loved ones. The Chapter also runs a 24-hour Helpline that provides support to family members, professional caregivers, people with dementia, and anyone in need of services regarding dementia. The MedicAlert(R) + Alzheimer’s Association Safe Return(R) program is a nationwide wanderer’s safety program that assists in the safe and timely return of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias who wander and become lost. Additionally, the Chapter holds a number of fundraising events throughout the year to support their services and fund research to find a cure. www.alznyc.org
