Heartwood Center Announces Launch of 2009 Women And Cancer Program

Posted on: Tuesday, 10 March 2009, 04:00 CDT

CHICAGO, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Heartwood Center today announced that it has launched its 2009 Women and Cancer Program which provides lower-income women with critical healing services. The program will run through June of this year, making available all of Heartwood's services free of charge to a number of participants. The program is funded through a grant from the state of Illinois. "We are extremely grateful for this funding," said Nancy Floy, Executive Director of Heartwood Center. "Without it, and the State of Illinois' deeply rooted commitment to improving women's health, these services would simply not be accessible to the people most in need."

Women contacting Heartwood will go through a screening process to determine which services might be most beneficial. A tailored treatment program will be created for each woman utilizing Heartwood's experienced staff. Participants in the 2009 Women and Cancer Program will not be charged for their treatment.

Heartwood's Women and Cancer Program is in its sixth year helping women meet the challenge of facing cancer by offering a holistic approach to their care.

Participants will be interviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and the program's consultants will help each woman choose treatment according to her own needs. The program is managed in partnership with the Rogers Park Community Council, and relies on Heartwood's expert and compassionate professional health providers to address the unique psychological, physical and spiritual challenges of women facing cancer with a holistic approach to their care.

Heartwood's services under the program include: Acupuncture Massage Therapy Psychotherapy Tai Chi Yoga Meditation
