INDIANAPOLIS, March 16 /PRNewswire/ — Hear Indiana proudly announces that the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent will be the lead supporter for the 6th Annual Talk Walk Run 2009 fundraiser benefiting deaf and hard of hearing children in Indiana.

“For more than 30 years, Hear Indiana has helped children with hearing loss achieve their fullest potential as independent members of society,” said R. Christopher Miyamoto, pediatric ENT and cochlear implant surgeon at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent.

“This year’s Talk Walk Run is special, because we are commemorating the 10th anniversary of House Bill 1410, which mandates that all newborns are screened for hearing loss prior to leaving the hospital,” said Naomi Horton, Executive Director for Hear Indiana.

“Infants can be fitted with hearing aids, and profoundly deaf children can receive a cochlear implant at twelve months of age. Early intervention allows deaf and hard of hearing children to listen, speak, and attend mainstream schools alongside their hearing peers.”

Don’t just take our word for it … come and listen to deaf and hard of hearing children tell you about their experiences.

To help us celebrate the 10th anniversary of House Bill 1410, Hear Indiana will present deaf and hard of hearing children born after the passage of this law to share their own stories at the conclusion of the Talk Walk Run. Hear Indiana will recognize deaf and hard of hearing children, their mothers and fathers, their teachers and therapists and the professionals and the community, who work together to improve the lives for children with hearing loss.
