Chicago-area ASBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence Provides Personalized Care Like No Other Weight-Loss Surgery Program

Romeo manages the care of every patient who undergoes weight-loss surgery at the Little Company of Mary Bariatric Surgery Center, from answering their questions about different available options the very first time they call, to guiding them through the maze known as health insurance, to helping them prepare for their surgeries and providing following-up care years after their procedures.
When patients call other programs to inquire about their cases, they are frequently routed through switchboards to any available nurse or technician. "Other programs have more layers between the patient and the staff," Romeo said. Little Company of Mary's patients are always transferred directly to Romeo, the registered nurse who runs the bariatric program. "I'm the voice they're going to hear when they call," Romeo said. "I develop a relationship with each patient. I care for them and provide them with excellent customer service."
The Little Company of Mary Bariatric Surgery Center, designated a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), is directed by Dr.
Little Company of Mary's patient-centric approach to the services it provides extends beyond the doctors and nurses that staff its team. The entire Bariatric Surgery Center is tailored with specialized bariatric equipment and oversized furniture to help patients feel comfortable each time they visit.
An estimated 220,000 Americans with morbid obesity had bariatric surgery in 2008, according to the ASBS. Demand for bariatric weight-loss surgery, and information about the different procedures that are performed, are growing exponentially. With this in mind, the Little Company of Mary Bariatric Surgery Center, in conjunction with the Midwest Bariatric Institute, has also launched a comprehensive Web site (http://www.PursuingPainFreeWeightLoss.org) intended to educate individuals who may be considering bariatric surgery, and to counter commonly held misconceptions about bariatric surgery. The publication of this Web site is consistent with the Little Company of Mary Bariatric Surgery Center's mission to provide excellent, personalized care for patients undergoing weight-loss surgery.
