Online video is released to educate Americans about their risk of type 2 diabetes

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., March 24 /PRNewswire/ — Today is American Diabetes Alert(R) Day. The American Diabetes Association urges all Americans to learn about type 2 diabetes and whether they may have it. To help educate the public, the American Diabetes Association and one of its National Strategic Partners, Liberty Medical Supply, Inc., have teamed up to provide an online video that explains the symptoms and risks of diabetes.

According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes is a serious disease that strikes nearly 24 million children and adults in the United States. It is named the “silent killer” because nearly one-fourth of those with the disease – 5.7 million – do not know they have it. Early diagnosis is critical to successful treatment and delaying or preventing some of the complications of diabetes, such as heart disease, blindness, kidney disease, stroke, amputation, and death.

The “Do You Have Diabetes?” Internet video features Dr. Sue Kirkman, Vice President of Clinical Affairs of the American Diabetes Association. It is sponsored and produced by Liberty Medical Supply, Inc., a subsidiary of Medco Health Solutions, Inc.

“As the provider of diabetes supplies to more than one million Americans, Liberty Medical is keenly aware of the need to educate the public about diabetes, in the hope many Americans can prevent complications and get treatment if necessary to avoid the terrible consequences of this disease,” said Laizer Kornwasser, Medco Senior Vice President and Liberty Medical President. “Liberty Medical has a long tradition of supporting the American Diabetes Association’s mission to further diabetes awareness and education. We encourage others to share the new video on the Internet to spread the word about diabetes and support the Alert Day campaign.”

The video is available on Liberty Medical’s website and www.diabetes.org/alert. It can also be accessed directly at the following link for viewing, linking and embedding on the Internet. http://video.libertymedical.com/services/player/bcpid16574976001
