iMedica Partners With Colorado Medical Society To Offer Electronic Health Record, Practice Management Solutions

Posted on: Tuesday, 31 March 2009, 08:15 CDT

Collaboration Builds on State-wide Commitment to Share Electronic Health Information

DALLAS, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- iMedica Corporation, a leading developer of healthcare software solutions for physician practices, announced today that it has become a member benefit partner of Colorado Medical Society (CMS), the state's largest physician-based association representing more than 7,000 members.

The relationship comes on the heels of the $19 billion in upcoming federal stimulus funds for health information technology, as well as a national commitment to provide everyone in the U.S. with an electronic health record (EHR) by 2014. The partnership also reinforces Colorado's priority to support the sharing of electronic health information across organizations.

As part of the terms of the agreement, CMS member physicians will receive preferred pricing on all iMedica products, as well as the opportunity to participate in live educational seminars designed to highlight the benefits, efficiencies and improved functionality that an EHR and practice management (PM) solution can bring to a medical practice. The need is especially great in troubled economic times when physicians face reduced reimbursement and a decline in fully insured patients.

"Physicians who live in the third most technologically evolved state in the nation are quickly adopting EHR's to improve practice efficiency, cost-effectiveness and patient satisfaction, and iMedica is proud to introduce its solutions to CMS members," said Michael Nissenbaum, President and CEO of iMedica. "iMedica stands out from other EHR vendors because of its unequaled technology platform and adaptability. Our product makes healthcare information accessible and available to physicians anytime and anywhere they need it."

The iMedica-CMS partnership supports Colorado's leadership position in health IT. Spearheaded by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter's Building Blocks for Healthcare Reform, the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO) went live on December 1, 2008, with an initiative that facilitates exchange of health information among 500 emergency clinicians from three hospitals and a health plan. The program is designed to prevent medical errors, streamline care, improve quality, and eliminate duplication of tests.

"iMedica's certification from the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) and its endorsement and acceptance by physicians for functionality and user-friendliness were the main factors driving CMS," said Mike Campo, Manager of Member Benefits for CMS. "By providing CMS physician members with access to purchase a quality EHR/PM solution like the one offered by iMedica at a discounted rate, we will make significant strides in improving the quality of healthcare and lowering the cost of its delivery."
