Universal Health Services, Inc. Enters Into Long-Term Agreement With Opus Healthcare Solutions for OpusMobility(R) and Support Services

Posted on: Tuesday, 31 March 2009, 08:45 CDT

AUSTIN, Texas, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Health Services, Inc. (NYSE: UHS) announced today that the corporation will enter into a long-term agreement with Opus Healthcare Solutions, Inc. for rolling out OpusMobility(R), the truly Web-based smart phone application for delivering access of patient clinical data in a secure fashion to physicians, across their entire enterprise of acute care hospitals. The long-term contract also includes a commitment by UHS to extend their service level agreement with Opus Healthcare for continued support, ongoing enhancements, and rollout of the OpusClinicalSuite(R) across their organization's healthcare facilities.

The application enables physicians to continue monitoring their patients' health outside of the hospital - at home, the office, or on-the-road using secure WiFi and cell phone networks. Because OpusMobility(R) is truly Web-based, it operates on all major industry-standard smart phone devices including Apple's iPhone(R), Google's Android(R) G1, Blackberry(R), and Microsoft(R) devices, thus freeing hospitals from becoming phone experts and giving physicians the freedom to use their own personal devices and not carry additional ones.

The 2nd generation OpusClinicalSuite(R) is one of the few Web-based (vs. simply web-enabled) clinical information systems available and includes clinical documentation, order management, computerized physician order entry, medication administration charting and checking, a clinical data repository, a patient dashboard, and physician Web access. The system is built on a secure Web architecture, and capable of sharing clinical data through an integrated HL7/XML interface engine. The suite enables hospitals to meet patient safety issues and implement quality measures for improved patient outcomes. The OpusClinicalSuite(R) can be installed at the facility or can be delivered in an ASP model via secure private WAN or Internet connectivity. UHS has been enjoying the benefits of the ASP model for almost 10 years.

Tim Rhoads, CEO of Opus Healthcare Solutions, stated, "We are pleased to continue our special relationship with UHS as they benefit from a truly Web-based suite of clinical applications for the healthcare industry. Web-based applications are a reality for every industry including healthcare as people's expectations of how software should operate are greatly influenced by their personal experiences engaging with the Internet at home, at the office, or on-the-go with their personal smart phone devices."
