Ohio Hospital to Acquire and Host iMedica EHR/PM System

Taking advantage of Stark Law, Alliance Community Hospital to boost care and regional EHR implementation among Ohio practices

ALLIANCE, Ohio, April 2 /PRNewswire/ — iMedica Corporation, a leading developer of healthcare software solutions for physician practices, today announced a unique go-to-market strategy and partnership with Alliance Community Hospital, a 200-bed, 150-physician not-for-profit facility in Alliance, Ohio, that allows the hospital to become a value-added reseller (VAR) of iMedica’s electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) products and services.

Alliance recently acquired iMedica’s Patient Relationship Manager(TM) (PRM), a single-application EHR and PM solution that utilizes Microsoft’s latest .NET technology. The hospital will provide hosting through an application service provider (ASP) model. Physicians will access iMedica’s PRM through a low-cost subscription-based service, while the hospital earns tax credits for extending value to the local physician community. The partnership leverages the Stark Law, which allows hospitals to “gift” software, but not hardware, to physicians.

iMedica will certify Alliance physicians, who will then train physician colleagues in PM, clinical and VAR program operations. Two Alliance physicians completed certification in March 2009, with a total of 10 physicians scheduled to be certified by August 2009.
