Biden Announces $2 Billion For Child Healthcare
Thursday, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden announced the Obama Administration will make $2.3 billion available to help child care programs, along with another $300 million to purchase and distribute vaccines to less fortunate Americans.
The money will come from the $787 billion economic stimulus package signed in February.
"Parents are worried about finding a job or keeping the job they have and they shouldn’t have to worry about affording quality child care," Biden said of the program, which includes vouchers families can use for day care.
The vaccines funding will only be used for purchasing vaccines that are to be distributed though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in all 50 states, large cities, and U.S. territories.
"Vaccines help keep children healthy, prevent costly stays in hospitals, and fight diseases that can lead to serious illness or death," Biden said, adding that the money "will help to vaccinate more Americans, cut health care costs, improve public health, and save lives."
