UCLA Medical Group Licenses Access Express(TM) Software From Health Access Solutions

Posted on: Thursday, 7 July 2005, 09:00 CDT

Health Access Solutions today announced its agreement with UCLA Medical Group to provide its Access Express(TM) Internet software. Access Express is a Web portal communications tool that allows affiliated physician offices to perform a wide range of online managed care functions, including the ability to expedite referrals and authorizations using automated clinical protocols.

Health Access Solutions is the software marketing division of Pacific Partners Management Services, Inc. (PPMSI). First introduced as PPMSI Online in May 2000, Access Express software is currently licensed to manage more than 900,000 health plan members, including UCLA.

Samuel A. Skootsky, MD, Medical Director of UCLA Medical Group, says, "We're trading in our faxes for the paperless Access Express Internet system. We're expecting a big change in the efficiency of our managed care operations by November 2005. The authorization protocols adapt well to our direct referrals and multiple sites. And, we can attach photos, imaging, and lab results to authorization requests to speed up the process even more."

PPMSI Chief Operating Officer Randall Frakes, says, "A key advantage is the ability of Access Express to increase managed care productivity by automating communications between UCLA's ten practice sites and their existing claims software. Besides UCLA's Perot Systems Diamond claims software, Access Express interfaces with today's most widely used managed care solutions, including IDX(R), MC400, and EZ-CAP(R) systems."

PPMSI will host a wide range of Web-based Access Express services for UCLA Medical Group, including online HMO member eligibility, automated referrals, protocols, and guidelines, case management, Care Tips, lab results, Pay for Performance (P4P) quality tracking and claims/capitation tracking.

UCLA Medical Group, the physician component of UCLA Healthcare, includes more than 600 primary care physicians and clinical specialists, with offices in West Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and the UCLA Westwood campus. UCLA Medical Group serves more than 60,000 health plan members in most major HMOs and Medicare Advantage plans.
