Sharp Community Medical Group's Electronic Health Record Goes Live

Posted on: Thursday, 16 April 2009, 04:00 CDT

SAN DIEGO, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Sharp Community Medical Group is pleased to announce the official "Go Live" of SCMG Connect's Electronic Health Record (EHR). Deryl Adderson, M.D., a family physician in University City, went live with SCMG CONNECT's EHR system on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Dr. Adderson and nurse practitioner Robin Crabtree have been using the SCMG CONNECT Practice Management (PM) system since last year -- theirs is the first practice within SCMG to have the fully-integrated EHR/PM system up and running.

SCMG CONNECT automates and connects clinical and administrative processes for SCMG physicians. The system creates a shared single medical record for each patient--even if seen by many different physicians--and it allows physicians to instantly access patient information where and when they need it. In addition, it provides electronic prescribing, making physicians eligible for Medicare's e-prescribing incentives. SCMG CONNECT currently meets the requirements of the EHR and Health Information Technology (HIT) provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which will provide up to $44,000 per physician for meaningful use of an EHR beginning in 2011.

"This is a watershed moment for SCMG," says John Jenrette, MD, SCMG's CEO. "The process began over three years ago when the Board of Directors made a commitment to the physicians of SCMG to implement an electronic medical record system. We are extremely pleased and excited that the physicians of SCMG have a system that is truly state-of-the art, and that will improve patient care and enable physicians to be more efficient in the practice of medicine."
