Nobel Laureate Celebrates With Thomson Reuters, Drs. Clotet and Gatell Ten Years of HIV Updates

BARCELONA, Spain, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Healthcare and Science business of Thomson Reuters and Drs. Clotet and Gatell have invited Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine, to give a keynote speech to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Prous Science - Timely Topics in Medicine-SIDA. The celebration will take place from 11-12 pm on April 22, 2009 at the Official Medical College of Barcelona.

Dr. Bonaventura Clotet, Head of HIV Unit at the University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Badalona, Barcelona and Dr. Josep M. Gatell, Head of the Infectious Diseases Department at the Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, are codirectors of the continuing medical education program on AIDS (www.ttmed.com/sida), jointly sponsored by Abbott, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Gilead, Janssen-Cilag and Pfizer.

Professor Barre-Sinoussi is a researcher at the Retroviral Infections Regulation Unit of the Virology Department, Pasteur Institute, Paris, and was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine for the discovery of HIV in 1983.

During the event, professor Barre-Sinoussi will take questions on the current and future state of HIV research -- including the possibility of obtaining a vaccine, on current available drugs and future therapy options. After questions from attendees and press, she will deliver a keynote speech on HIV pathogenesis and prospects for an HIV/AIDS vaccine.
