YWCA USA Applauds President Obama's National Call for Volunteer Service

WASHINGTON, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The YWCA USA applauds President Obama's national call for volunteerism and urges all Americans to volunteer their time and talent to improve their local communities.

President Obama recently signed a new $5.7 billion national service bill and called on Americans to learn about volunteer and service opportunities. "We need your service right now, at this moment in history," he said. "I'm not going to tell you what your role should be. That's for you to discover. But I'm asking you to stand up and play your part. I'm asking you to help change history's course."

The YWCA USA includes nearly 300 local associations across the country that offer a range of volunteer opportunities in programs focused on domestic violence, racial justice, child care, job training, and economic empowerment.
