Longs Drug Stores Reports Preliminary June Sales

WALNUT CREEK, Calif., July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Longs Drug Stores Corporation today reported preliminary total sales of $447.6 million for the five-week period ended June 30, 2005, a 0.6% increase from sales of $445.1 million in the comparable period a year ago. Pharmacy sales were 48.0% of total drug store sales compared with 47.0% a year ago.
Preliminary June same-store sales increased 0.3% from the same period last year. Pharmacy same-store sales increased 2.7% and front-end same-store sales decreased 1.7%.
Preliminary quarter-to-date total sales of $812.0 million for the nine weeks ended June 30, 2005, were 0.6% higher than the $806.8 million reported in the comparable period last year. Pharmacy sales were 48.1% of total drug store sales during the period, compared with 47.2% a year ago. Same-store sales increased 0.3%, with pharmacy same-store sales increasing 2.4% and front-end same-store sales decreasing 1.5%.
Preliminary year-to-date total sales of $1.96 billion for the twenty-two weeks ended June 30, 2005 were 0.2% lower than the $1.97 billion reported in the comparable period last year. Pharmacy sales were 48.9% of total drug store sales during the period, compared with 47.5% a year ago. Same-store sales decreased 0.5% with pharmacy same-store sales increasing 2.5% and front-end same-store sales decreasing 3.2%.
