Sebelius' Commitment to Health Care Reform Assures Strong Leadership for Office's Mission to Drive Widespread Health Care Reform

WASHINGTON, April 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Patient Advocate Foundation (NPAF) - a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of creating avenues of improved patient access to health care through public policy reform at the state and federal levels - today praised the confirmation of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

"National Patient Advocate Foundation applauds the confirmation of Gov. Sebelius to drive the development of practical policy solutions designed to address our nation's most pressing health care challenges, such as the provision of affordable and accessible health care for all," said Nancy Davenport-Ennis, Founder and CEO of NPAF. "Quality healthcare is a basic human need and a shared social responsibility, and we look forward to collaborating with Secretary Sebelius in ensuring that this quality care is made available to all Americans."

"President Obama has clearly articulated that he understands the challenges American families are facing as they find themselves unable to afford or access health care. The President's selection and the Senate's approval of Gov. Sebelius reflects this administration's commitment to prioritizing key health care advancements including expanding access to care, eliminating pre-existing conditions, and promoting preventive care and education, among others," said Davenport-Ennis.

NPAF strives to translate the experiences of patients assisted by its companion organization, the Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF), into recommendations to improve access to and reimbursement for health care. NPAF is dedicated to working with Congress and all levels of government to overcome challenges and create solutions that will allow for affordable, high-quality and effective health care for all. PAF directly assists patients with chronic and life-threatening conditions who are struggling with access to care issues. Last year, PAF received more than 9.5 million inquiries requesting information by phone or on-line and provided extensive case management mediation and arbitration services to more than 48,000 patients confronting issues of denied access to sustained health care for their diagnosis of chronic, life-threatening and debilitating conditions.
