Weston United Celebrates Mental Health Month on May 19th

Aims to Raise Money for Housing NYC's Homeless & Mentally Ill

NEW YORK, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- May marks National Mental Health Month and to shed light on it, philanthropic-minded New Yorkers will raise money for Weston United's housing and support services for the mentally ill and physically disabled. As federal and state funding has been cut for day-to-day mental health services in the current economy, supporters will raise funds amidst live music, hors d'oeuvres, and a silent auction in a social setting amongst those with this common goal on May 19th, 2009.

Founded in 1985 by Rev. M. Moran Weston, PhD, and distinguished leaders of Harlem Hospital and St. Philips Episcopal Church, the Harlem-based not-for-profit provides services to over 1000 individuals in New York City, and combats homelessness through 24-hour housing services in four apartment buildings and rented apartments in Harlem, Washington Heights, and the Bronx, along with employment programs and professional services for treatment for the mental and physically disabled.

Weston United board members Susan Towers and Jennifer Walden, MD, are hosting the event along with visionary CEO Jean Newburg and active board members Max Nuti, Jeffrey Brooker, Robert Jackson, Carmen McCulloch, Lilliana Diaz-Pedrosa, Greg Weston, and Robert Wynn.

Board member and co-host Dr. Jennifer Walden, known largely in her role as a Manhattan plastic surgeon and regular guest on Fox News Channel's weekday mornings on the America's Newsroom Health Desk, is an ardent supporter of housing New York's most disenfranchised.
