Schools of Public Health Launch Web Portal to Provide Local Media Resources on Response to H1N1

Posted on: Monday, 4 May 2009, 09:14 CDT

WASHINGTON, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Association of Schools of Public Health, the membership association for the 40 CEPH-accredited schools of public health in North America, has developed a website with information and resources for local and national media on response to the H1N1 in communities around the country. It includes an interactive map with contact information for schools and school spokespeople including instructions how to find an expert. It also includes Frequently Asked Questions. The website can be found at: http://www.asph.org/document.cfm?page=1089

As the number of cases of H1N1 rises and threat of a global pandemic looms, schools of public health are responding. Schools are actively involved supporting colleges and universities in planning across the country, providing "just in time" training to state and local health departments engaged in response, conferring with health departments on legal and ethical issues related to isolation and quarantine, developing computational models to run simulations of disease spread and the effect of interventions. Graduate students in public health are also in the field assisting state and local health departments research possible cases.

Additionally, the results of research and education advances conducted by schools of public health including social distancing and other common public health practices help limit the spread of disease.
