AANS/CNS and BrainLAB Announce Winner of 2009 BrainLAB Community Neurosurgery Award

WESTCHESTER, Ill., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The AANS/CNS Section on Tumors and BrainLAB today announced the winner of the 2009 BrainLAB Community Neurosurgery Award. Eric Nussbaum, MD, from Minneapolis, Minn., received the award for his presentation, "Long-Term Follow-Up, Results and Complications of the Middle Fossa Approach for Hearing Preservation in Acoustic Neuromas." Dr. Nussbuam will be presented with the award during the 2009 AANS Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif.

The BrainLAB Community Neurosurgery Award was first awarded in 2007 and is presented at the Annual Meetings of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS). The award is given for the best abstract submitted related to central nervous system tumors. The award is open to neurosurgeons who practice in a non-academic setting and are a member of the Section on Tumors.

The goal of the award is to support continued brain tumor research among non-academic neurosurgeons. The 2008 award was presented to Dr. Alan Villavicencio at the AANS Annual Meeting in Chicago for his paper, "Survival Following Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Newly Diagnosed and Recurrent Glioblastoma Multiforme."

According to Gene Barnett, MD, FACS, Awards Chairman of the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors, "The continued support from BrainLAB provides a valuable contribution to the field of brain tumor research. This award recognizes and encourages the important work of young investigators in brain tumor research."
