Packard/Stanford Physician to Lead Society for Pediatric Research

STANFORD, Calif., May 11 /PRNewswire/ — David Cornfield, MD, the chief of pulmonary, allergy, and critical care medicine at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, has been elected president of the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR).

Beginning this month, Cornfield is leading the prestigious organization of research-based academic pediatricians for a one-year term. “It’s a great honor to be chosen by the Society membership,” said Cornfield, who is Anne T. and Robert M. Bass professor of pulmonary medicine at the Stanford School of Medicine and director of the center for excellence in pulmonary biology. “My role will be to offer vision and guidance for the issues that are most relevant for advancing the research agenda of health scientists.”

While leading the 3000-member Society, Cornfield will continue his appointments at Packard Children’s and Stanford, including serving as medical director of the pediatric intensive care unit.

“The goals of Packard Children’s Hospital, the School of Medicine and the Society for Pediatric Research are well-aligned,” added Cornfield. “There’s a very natural synergy, and I hope this will enable me to advocate even more effectively on behalf of children and families.”
