Doctors offer first adult Scoliosis brace.

NEW YORK, May 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- According to the International Scoliosis Society, scoliosis, a condition that causes an abnormal curvature of the spine, affects approximately 3% of the U.S. population, which roughly equals 6 million people, the majority being adult women, with pain and increasing deformity. New treatments have emerged for adults; the SpineCorporation LTD, developer of the SpineCor brace for adolescent Scoliosis, recently released the first Dynamic Flexible Adult Scoliosis Brace.

In the past, there have not been many options for adults suffering from the late effects of Adolescent onset scoliosis, or from the degenerative adult onset variety. Dr. Marc Lamantia and Dr. Gary Deutchman have pioneered the use of the Spinecor brace for adults beginning in 2004, and since have fitted thousands of adults. With offices in New York, Illinois, Georgia, Raleigh, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Denver, Buffalo, St. Louis, Washington State, and California, they are considered the country's leading doctors for non-surgical scoliosis treatment for adults. "SpineCor has made scoliosis treatment easier and more effective than ever before," says Dr. Deutchman. "It can significantly change a patients" overall quality of life."

Both doctors believe there is a significant lack of education and awareness in the U.S. for people suffering from scoliosis, and therefore continue to make information readily available, through their practice and the non-profit Scoliosis Care Foundation.

What if Scoliosis is left untreated?

If left untreated, scoliosis can cause serious health problems including rib deformity, compression fractures, shortness of breath, digestive problems, chronic fatigue, acute or dull back pain, leg, hip, and knee pain, acute headaches, mood swings, and menstrual disturbances. Adults suffering with Scoliosis are not ideal candidates for surgery or for the use of more conventional rigid braces. The SpineCor Adult Scoliosis brace marks a milestone in adult scoliosis treatment. The brace is comfortably worn under the clothes while creating spinal offloading and corrective postures designed to reduce pain and curvature progression. Advances in design include pelvic shorts which make SpineCor even more comfortable than before.
