Transform, the Largest Plastic Surgery Clinic, States That Men Are More Vain Than Women

A year ago, Transform, the leading plastic surgeons in the UK, announced the results of the biggest cosmetic surgery report ever carried out. The report challenged many preconceptions around the reasons why women and men carry out cosmetic surgery.

Most notably, Britain's male population opts for plastic surgery or other non-surgical cosmetic procedures for reasons of vanity, as opposed to women, who have cosmetic procedures to resolve low self-esteem. 46% of men confidently admitted to feeling self-assured and would change nothing about their appearance.

The Cosmetic Surgery Research

The in-depth poll of 2000 men and women nationwide was undertaken by respected independent research agency GFK NOP on behalf of the UK's leading cosmetic surgery provider, Transform Cosmetic Surgery Group (http://www.transforminglives.co.uk), to gain insight into people's attitudes towards their bodies, and attitudes to both surgical and non-surgical treatments.

80% of those interviewed agree that cosmetic surgery and many other forms of non-surgical cosmetic treatments are now more socially acceptable than ever.

Vanity and Self-Confidence

One third of male interviewees described vanity as their motivation for cosmetic surgery. One third of women, however, named cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures carried out to boost their confidence, including as examples breast implants, liposuction or lipoplasty and facelift surgery.

More worrying was the result that 14% of men and women have cosmetic surgery because they 'hated' their appearance.

Popular Cosmetic Surgery Treatments

73% of women and 44% of men confessed to being most unhappy with their weight and tummies, but they had not done anything about it.

When probed further, 33% of men and 26% of women admitted that despite their dissatisfaction and lack of confidence, they had not tried dieting or exercise.

Other findings revealed that both men and women (8%) are equally worried about losing their hair, which could be a result of today's fast-paced, stressful life, or possibly the sudden surge of hair extensions, which can often result in balding.
